Eclectic musician Fred Hostetler has kicked off 2025 with one of the most prescient songs around. He has taken Mose Allison’s “Your Mind Is On Vacation (But Your Mouth Is Working Overtime” and turned it into a blues rock classic. Released on March 13th on Mukthiland Records, this quick number is as hilarious as it is frightening, Given the current political landscape and the talking heads that cover it, he skewers both sides of the aisle and the news people that cover and interpret the news.
Hostetler returns to his roots for the sound of the song. "When I accidentally came across the blues song ‘Your Mind Is On Vacation’ (and your mouth is working overtime) on YouTube, I knew it was important to do my own rendition," says Hostetler. "I immediately heard it in a different way, a fresh approach using multiple blues genres and finally spinning off into a groove reminiscent of Blue By Nature and a relief from the ‘yakety yak’.”
Blue By Nature is Hostetler’s old band and he teamed up with Eric Troyer on keyboards and Tim Heist on harmonica to produce the song. “Your Mind Is On Vacation,” which can be applied to just about every annoying person in your life, will be featured on Hostetler’s forthcoming album “Blues Back Pages,” which is scheduled for release in April 2025.
